there are only 2 coarseness choices on the stone type hones. use the finer of the 2 unless you have extreme rust build up that needs to be knocked down with the coarse stone. then after a coarse run switch to the fine stones. I use lots of brake clean during honing, some use brake fluid. run the hone in and out in 30 to 60 second intervals then clean well and examine bore surfaces for pitting or high spots, continue until bore looks new and you are attempting to leave cross hatch marks in the cylinder walls clean clean clean when done. when installing the rubber cups put just a slight amount of brake fluid on the lip surface.
you can hone them onthe vehicle in many cases but somtimes there are obstacles preventing you from getting a clear shot with the hone.
