Dad's front-wheel-drive Cord is not as good as RWD cars on icy hills. It often helps to back up a slippery driveway. When climbing hills weight distribution and traction favors the rear wheels.
If a pickup is loaded, weight on the rear wheels, may exceed weight on the front axle. These two factors may be why truck rear axles often have higher weight caryrigng capaity than the front axle.
