I had all the gradient percentages converted to degrees & written on a piece of paper. I checked my resting pulse, then programmed the treadmill. The ones at the gym I go to are very nice & have all the digital incline/speed adjustment buttons right in front of you. I started & was using the Bruce Protocol. Every 3 minutes you increase grade 2% (10% is the starting incline)& add speed. During the 3rd stage around the 8 minute mark my pulse reached the target rate for my age, 151 bpm. Somewhere during the 4th stage my heartrate was up in the 185 area, which is what my max should be. I maintained that heartrate until the 12 minute mark, when I decided to abort the testing protocol and begin my cooldown cycle. My pulse dropped about 15-20bpm for every minute of cooldown.

It was alot easier than yesterdays charade when I was starting at 10 degrees, then 12,14,etc instead of the normal 10%,12%,etc gradient.

And yes I am aware of false positive & false negative results from this type of testing. I know there are several more precise tests that can be performed on the human cardio system.
