treadmill stress test

I got one coming up this week, part of my Dr.'s retirement fund (his not mine).

Has anyone here ever done this? I go to the gym 3 times a week, even do cardio on an "eliptical" machine or gazelle. Seldom do I do the treadmill. Running seems hard on my feet/legs.

From what I've read I will be hooked up to a bunch of electrodes, much like what they do when you take your putt putt back to the dealer to extinguish that check engine light. Then you began walking at a slow speed & slight incline, both which increase at intervals. You keep this up until you reach a target heart rate (mine should be 151.....220 minus my age 42 times 85%)or you get too tired or have a problem with a vital sign. Then you rest while they keep monitoring thiings.

I dunno what this will cost. I will call tomorrow, if too high I will postpone or cancel altogether. Debt(stress) is harder on your heart than simple poor health. I'm just doing this because I (being adopted) recently found my biological mother & have found out that her father died decades ago at age 54, possibly of heart failure. So its a heredity check-up thing, plus my triglycerides & LDL were high at my physical last week. But what Texas bachelor eats healthy anyhow.

BTW I just figured out today that a 10 degree slope (what I began at on a treadmill gym yesterday. It measures incline in degrees) is ALOT steeper than a 10% slope, which is what testing protocols are measured in. I tuckered out fast when I hit 15 degrees slope, which is I believe a 26.8% grade.

Feel free to share any past experiences or advice.

Thanks,
Bucky
