I made my first forge, I understand about money being tight. When I started accumulating my tools there were still some old blacksmiths in farm country useing trip hammers to draw out plow shears and forges for welding. but they couldn't compeat with the new stuff.
I have been in the welding business but was interested in hobby blacksmithing and got alot of my stuff in the scrap yards including my 50# little giant trip hammer. Never saw an anvil there but there was plenty of them at the farm auctions. Most of them pretty beat up.I got a beautiful 200# plattin at a farm auction that no one bid on. I don't think they knew what it was.
