If this fellow is at all knowledgeable he won't be fazed by any comments on surface blemishes. You can dress it off carefully with a grinder and hand stone. Forget this working cold steel stuff. It's a used anvil. You simply need to decide if you want an anvil.
Anvils are remarkable things in that they remain the capital they where when they started. The other end of the spectrum is the cell phone or computer.
