The business ethic of the modern retailer, the MBA, who was taught at such prestigious schools as Yale and Haaawvord, is "Get the customers in the doors through slick marketing (sounds an awful lot like politics), hustle-separate them from their money (politics again?), get their now-worthless asses out to make room for the next suckers. The bottom line is all that matters right now. Guys like Sam Walton are full whirling dervishes in their graves.
