Once you get that CRAP turned off the machine will either weld or it won't. The 250 series was the first nightmare Miller produced trying to learn solid state controll and they muffed it badly.
As far as gas is concerned, if the 250 runs it will weld steel damn well with just Co2. Beer regulators tend to freeze up though.
