In this case, hook a voltmeter lead to each end of the cable, in the truck. Should read zero volts. Now put the load on, try starting. It should read maybe 1/2v. This means the voltage is dropping by 1/2v over the length of the cable. Paul's bad cable would have read oh... 11 volts.

Works good to find bad switches and other stuff too. Like poor connections. It's a tool I often forget is in my box.
