Transfer case hand brake

Ok, after some frustration I have decided to revisit finishing the hand brake before I get the cab back to put in place.

My bolt, the candy cane shaped bolt that pulls the brake band tight, is too short for the bottom operating spring to fit on the bolt.

I searched on parts list . com. Found three places that have them.

I asked all of them to measure the bolt, all of them were 6 1/2" long. All were in NOS packages.

MINE IS 61/2" LONG!!! THATS TOO SHORT!

Whats wrong here? I have everythng where it should be. Is there a longer bolt?
