If you think there's juice going to the coil and points when the switch is off, just feel the coil after the truck has sat a while, or before start it up. If the coil is warm, there's your problem. Some of the time, the engine will stop with the points open, so you'll have to check a few times before you can be sure, but if you check it enough times you'll catch it "hot" eventually. I find that it usually stops in a points-closed position even though you'd think it would stop more often with the points open since the dwell angle is about 1/3 of a turn.

Very slightly more complicated test is to turn the engine until the points close for sure, either by looking at them or stopping it just before the timing mark, let it set for a couple hours with the ignition supposedly off, and see if the coil is warm.

I would just put a test light or voltmeter on the coil terminal, but I'm assuming you have ZERO electrical test stuff or knowledge.
