I have this rather unique problem that is slightly over my competency level when it comes to my (new to me)48 DPW. When the ignition switch is in the off position the battery has a noticeable draw the eventually drains the battery. I believe, although not conclusively, that the points are closed which creates a steady draw on the battery.
To remedy the situation the previous owner (I think this was his intention behind the switch) installed a disconnect switch that breaks the path of the battery to ground therefore preventing the battery from draining.
My question is how do I wire the ignition using the key'd ignition switch to kill all of the power to the points and truck to prevent the battery from draining?
Shouldn't the disconnect switch break only the positive side of the battery? Jim
