Someone here or over at the M37 Forum, once mentioned that while the differential is out you can install the axles and check to see if your housing is straight by seeing how close the axle ends are to being aligned. The long side was low and forward of the short side.

Well as you can see the rear axle on my 46 isn't very close. The axles are in pace each with three nuts, and good and snug, not tight as I didn't have the oil seals in the axles.

With the heavy bed, and the dual sets of extra heavy springs it had I suspect it was well overloaded several times in it's life. I'm still not sure how heavy those front springs it has, but they sure aren't stock.
