There are a whole bunch of symbols available via ummmm start> all programs> accessories> system tools> character map. Click the symbol you want, and the key strokes are displayed at the lower right of the screen. I use a post-it cheat sheet for ° and ˘ .
Cool, I'm going to put Ümlauts everywhere. ;)
