I doubt its a problem here, but the preferred pre-soak is motor oil. Soaks in quicker, and will be readily replaced with gear oil in service.

Didja know that the CR name comes from "Chicago Rawhide", and National Seals used to be "The American Leather Packing Company"? But leather is highly abrasive, tends to wear grooves into shafts. Neoprene is better, and the newer composites like teflon etc better yet.

Oh, and put some silicone seal on the washer/yoke/nut interface, or you can get oil leaking through there. Tends to spray onto the underside more than a leaky seal, which will drip.
