Apparently they kept right on making them for export. If they had to stop domestic sales due to legalities/liabilities, I could understand not wanting to take any more orders.

But also, there would have been lag time between accepting an order and actual production. The claim that those were the last two doesn't hold up with the facts that there were so many higher serial numbers. Of course, they may have been the last two ordered, in the last run of a couple hundred, without being the last two actually built.

Hmm, it would seem to me that the question could be clarified by comparing build cards for serial numbers vs production dates. How many owners of those high numbered chassis have build cards?
