Dave, this has been discussed a great deal on the turbo diesel registry forum. There are lots of potential causes. You did not say if your truck is a 4X4, but on those it is often due to the track bar failing. The stock design is very weak. Get under the truck and have an assistant turn the steering wheel back and forth with the engine off. You will see any slop in the track bar or tie rod ends.
The best fix if the track bar is a 3rd gen track bar retrofit kit.
I experienced the death wobble three times in my 2001...very scary when in traffic!
