We rig heavy loads all the time with portable A frames. 3K isn't that much in terms of load. Our large one is set up for 10K. It's aluminum alloy & it still takes a man & a boy to set it up. It gives you 11'4" overhead less hoisting equipment. I've never seen one for rent, but everything is for rent somewhere. A vertical pick is the only way to go. My guess is that you wouldn't need to pick the load, but would use it as a back up to keep from tipping as you walk it down with reduced blocking.
