Flatheads six. -VS-Slant six-VS-4.0 Jeep engine?

My friend wants to remove the tired 230 flathead six from his truck and install a 251. I say he would be better off installing a slant six in that case or maybe even a 4.0 jeep engine with a 5 spd. transmission
