I take it this was through a normal policy? The policy I have on my old vehicles have the option of declared value. Meaning, when the policy is first set up they(insurance company) sends out an apprasier. You show all your bills and he looks it over and you set up an agreed value.
If your vehicle is stolen or totaled you get that amount and the premium is based on that amount.
Trust me, I loathe the adjusters. We had lightning rods and the glass balls stolen off our barns a few years back. We turned it in and the insurance company, first claim in 25 years. They said it was personal property and was not covered as if we left, we would take them with us. One call to the state ombudsman office and they had a talk with them. Insurance company called the next day and asked for an estimate which they paid promptly.
