Master Cylinder Difference

I was curious if there is a difference between the master cylinders if a '72 W200 has manual or power brakes. The counter guy at NAPA said there was no difference according to his book, but it certainly seems like my pushrod is about 3/4" too long, which is more than the potential adjustment of the rod.
