As Kaegi said,what you are seeing is just the air gap around the exhaust crossover.The actual port is small in size.If you have a leak there you may also have leaks at the intake ports.This could contribute to the miss you have,replace the intake gasket.There are a few different types of gasket materials used as well as port sizes on a 318,yours is most likely (if OEM) a stamped steel gasket.
