Something that old the PCV valve is on the drivers side head and then the vent portion of the system is on the passenger side. It usually has a rubber hose to the air cleaner. With a worn engine there can be some blowby (exhaust) come out that passenger side. Running rough right now to me sounds like a vacuum leak.
A picture of what you are asking about woudl certainly help more.
