Red triangles on the backs of Dodges?

I noticed the two trucks at Ed's BBQ had those red reflectorized triangles on the back.

Are they required in Ca. umm in lieu of emergency flashers? Always, or just when holding back traffic, going slow enough that you pull to the right and would turn on your flashers, if you had any?
