The VP44 is not the "good one". The P7100 on 94-98 12 valves is the "good one". The electric lift pump that supplies the VP44 needs to be relocated from the engine to a part of the truck that does not get as much vibration. The vibration from the engine kills the electric lift pump and that in turn kills the VP44. I've heard of repair prices as high as the 5K - 6K range when that happens. Also the fuel pressure from the electric lift pump to the VP44 needs to be monitored with a pressure gauge (not a light). Low fuel pressure to the VP44 spells certain death for the pump.
