Ok, I’ve research my Army Technical Manuals (TMs) for more information/clarification on front axle Universal Joints, here’s what I found:

½ Ton Trucks – They used both the Rzeppa and Bendix-Wiess (BW) UJs and both axles interchange with Rzeppa being the strongest. So for guys that have install V8 in these trucks, if you do off-roading, you may want to consider the Rzeppa upgrade (6 ball unit), if you currently not installed.

¾ and 1.5 Tons – They NEVER used the Rzeppa UJ in these trucks only the BW UJ (5 ball unit).

¼, Ton Jeep, 1 Ton FFPW, 1 Ton M601, 1 Ton M615, and M37 – Used ONLY the Tracta UJ.

Axles from the WC ¾ Ton, 1 Ton FFPW, 1 Ton M601, 1 Ton M615, and WC 1.5 Ton, vehicles interchange since they have the same track width. So you can interchange (BW/Tracta) axle assemblies. As to which axle UJ is stronger of the two axle types, I have no information on a comparison test. Looking purely at UJ design, I would say the BW since it appears to be a beefier UJ. At any rate, the BW axle assemblies can be a good spare set of axles for anyone looking to have spare parts for these trucks. Sorry for any confusion from the post below and I hope this clarifies this issue for us.
