I say someone who rebuilt it made a smistake somewhere. My last WC51 and other PWs and WCs, i have rebuilt the engines when I first got them as most were non runners so I knew what i was getting When I started it up. I ran 55 mph with stock gears and no OD for years and have never spun a bearing. If rebuilt correctly the should handle 3000 to 3200 all day. I even commuted on the freeeway in my weapons carrier daily for 2 1/2 years. If you only drive 40 then it was not the speed. We all wish therer was a 5 speed OD to bolt in! go with some 11.00 x 16s or you can spend more money and go with the 4.89s. I have owned one with 4.89s and it was not as imressive as i had hoped. so my next one I put on the 39 inch 11.00 x 16s with stock gears and was quite satisfied at 55 with the engine speed.
