What you are referring to is allready starting to happen as far as higher wages. The problem is they will just move it all to another location and start it all over again. Happened with Mexico pretty quickly if you remember. I heard India is next
I'll give you a little insight into the coporate greed/China mess. The company I worked for decided to set a China "Distribution" center. They once again lied as they were setting up a full fledged manufacturing facility.
When you set up a plant in China their government has rules that must be followed.
Building must be Built to their specs. Basically 3 story high ceilings with HUGE doors for access. Why? When they reclaimn or take over, they have a plant you paid for.
NO used or rebuilt machines allowed. Our company tried to send rebuilt and they refused to allow them in. Why. They need new machines you paid for.
Standard practice is to build housing for workers to stay in. Don't know if that was mandated but they did it. Reason is the poorer people come in from the rural areas and that is the only way they can get them to stay. They get one vacation a year and on average it takes a months wages to go home. Most don't return.
The best one? Our execs didn't notice that they were only allowed to sell WITHIN China. This only came into play AFTER showing them how me make our products and training for close to a year. No one in China is willing to pay their prices so it was all a bust. They shut it down and sold/gave away everything. They "Told" us they lost 2 million on it. More like 20 million on the low side. Meanwhile at home, we have to take a 9% paycut because of the slowdown. Right. Bail them out again.
I swear these CEO's get the same magazine and follow each other like sheep on what to do. They get paid enough that if they hang on a few years they're set and just move to another victum to start all over again.
The only idea they have bought into that has helped American manufacturing is "Lean manufacturing". Idea is to clean up your plant(paint and such) keep no extra inventory on hand and pay consultants and inspectors to show your lean. I assume this was all set up by a bosses son who needed something to make money off of when they collect the cert and inspection fees.
The thing that saves jobs here is the no inventory thing. You got a line going with lots of workers. Machine goes down and you have no spare parts. You need part pronto as line is down so they pay extra(2 to 3 times more) to get it faster. China can't ship here in a day.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Sorry for the long post but steams me how coporate, SHORT term greed is killing what the American workers worked decades to build up.
