The gap between the hood and fender should be 1/2 inch. It does appear the cab in front is sagging looking along the running board. Placing shims under the cab will not fix the problem, it will continue to reappear.

Problem - The front cab mounts are a weak area, double sheeted with 1/16 steel plates. This is a design flaw and these areas progressively get worse over time. The cab door jams to the left at right of the cab extend out beyond the mount area where most of the down force energy is placed/absorbed causing the area to flex and weaken over time. This is compounded by rust from water hitting the area when driving and the trucks setting for years in moist climates.

Fix – You will need ¼ x 4 inch wide steel plates cut the length to fit on the underside of the cab and welded in place on each side with holes for the cab bolts. These plates stabilize the movement of the cab for a solid mount. The only other way to fix this problem is cutout the floor plates and weld in new – a much more difficult fix. I had to do this to mine a few years back, and no more problem with sagging or flex. It gives the cab a good solid feel that you will notice. It also minimizes the rub from the fender seal along the side of the cowl. I’ll see if I still have pictures of the fix and send to you.
