My '96 Dodge Ram 4-speed automatic tranny went AWOL 2 weeks ago. Was acting up 2years and 25,000 miles ago.Currently at 73000 miles. Dealer and Chrysler says "no way Jay" on replacing trans despite my 75ooo warranty. Was told the tranny failed now and these things do not "gradually fail". That said, I am thinking of replacing with 4-apeed clutch and transfer case(truck is 4WD).Chrysler "engineer" acted as if he knew of no way to do it and told me to find some"old mechanic". Told him I have a panel of experts at the ready and I will get back to HIM with more advice. Other question, is there a heavy duty automatic available to swap into this truck (360 cid)that has a better history for longevity? My truck is pampered and does not see heavy duty work. Thanks in advance for any advice.Yeah,Yeah I have heard all the "dead Dodge"jibes but hey,..lay it on me...I got a good sense of humor.Remember I own an M43.
