I'm happy with F/R lockers but that's with power steering. On icy pavement with dual lockers in 4WD it's driveable but caution is required. You do get used to it, unlike some say is is NOT unpredictable just different. Lockers definitely do better than limited slip in tough offroad conditions. Actually, an issue on ice is how much "preload" wheel torque is needed to UNLOCK the outside (faster) wheel on a turn. With a Lockright or Detroit a chold can supply the 2 or 3 ft-lbs required to get it to start clicking; try it on jackstands (put the transfer case in 2WD, tramsmission in neutral, jack up rear axle, you turn one wheel forwards, the kid turns opposite wheel backwards. Click click click...) With a new LSD even Hercules can't make it turn. I maintain that the LSD is more likely to lose contact when coasting around an icy curve, therefore.
