I suppose you could always try a little polishing or rubbing compound, the kind that's used for oxidized auto body paint. This would probably be very tedious, considering all the nooks, crannies and otherwise uneven surfaces in the engine compartment.
Otherwise, I can't think of any suggestions, except, like the others who responded, just praise this good-hearted woman who put forth such a wonderful gesture.
