We spent part of today at the Metro Centro mall in Managua. Here there are armed guards walking the mall.
Where we are staying is surrounded by about an 8' fence, sharpened angle iron about 4" on center and topped with razor wire. Has a 24 hour gate guard.
At the local store is at least one guard with a pistol grip shotgun and sometimes 2. There are also either 1 or 2 uniformed guards walking somewhere along the 4 blocks to the store. They are only armed with a radio though. Just about every store around here has armed guards.
