I was taken to the big city by my kids yesterday after supper ,they asked me if I have ever been to a large shopping mall . I just said no,but wouldn’t mind the trip ,look around abit and see whats new . Holy the traffic I couldnt believe the number of cars , I had to ask myself where all these people were headed . The driving habits of my city dweller friends werent the best either . A green light meant pin it ,yellows didn’t mean you slowed down or went through the intersection with caution , and the red light didn’t have much stopping power either !
At the mall the parking lot was at least ten acres of asphalt ,I was thinking what a waste of good land to be paved over .Inside the mall it was lit up for a night time foot ball game , flashing signs people buzzing around. Seemed to me that clothing is a big thing ,fashion ,one out of three stores sold clothes . High end clothes with triple digit price tags that looked good but wouldn’t keep you warm in cold east wind . Shoes were a big ticket item lots of shoe stores, would seem that urban people must walk a lot to have so many shoe stores . I went in a store that sold hats you know baseball caps . But these caps wernt like a cap I would were when working in the garden to shade my eyes . These thing were the kind you wore backwards like kids do . The prices started at 50 for a cap ! When I asked the salesperson if the had a engineers caps she looked puzzled . I said never mind ,but, could I ask here a question . I asked how much is the rent for this cap store .Her reply 6000 a month and 4 percent of the gross sales . I took a deep breath and said you must sell a pile of these hats .
Seems ,time is important to these city folks . there were more stores selling watches and jewelry than I could count too and looking at the prices of these watches time is definitely money . I did stop in a place that sold dvds and such looked around for a while at old T V shows on discs .Some good old clean classic fun and not violent either . I entered a T V stereo place ,why on earth would any body want a T V set 5 feet wide and of course, its on sale for under 2000 no payments for 2 two year and interest free for the remaining balance of the 84 months .
Now we stop at the food court ,must have been a hundred little store fronts from countries all over the world .Asian writing ,upside down writing ,right to left writing, symbols for writing and letters placed backwards writing .And store front chefs tossing food in the air ,some were cutting food up a the speed of light with flashing pair of knives .Some cooks were setting food on fire big coloured flames very impressive .But I couldn’t find a place that sold a decent slice of plain old roast beef with good gray mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables and slice of bread .You know like the kind of meal a womans church group puts on for 7.95 and includes a quarter slice of apple pie too . Real food well cooked with care and pride
It was near closing time 9 pm I was still taking it all in ,and a security guard was asking us if we knew our way out ,he was polite but I got the hint .He wanted this rube out of the mall ,he followed us right to the exit he was a confident sort . Dressed in uniform and cap lots of basket weave leather work and armed with a radio and a few assorted sprays .Just as we reached the exit door I turned and extended my hand to the guard .I thanked him kindly for his assistance to getting us to the exit in a timely fashsion . In turning my leather jacket just exposed enough of grip on my 45 colt tucked in my waist band .He caught a quick glimpse and then, he beat a very hasty retreat back to where these security guys go ~copey
