You know I can’t sit still on the wood splitting ,sorry I have to say . Whats missing today is patience , I had some pressure on me to cut and split a logging truck full of tops ( a two trailer set up) . The splitter I rented was of good workmanship and had the ability to split both ways fore and aft ,was a good machine . I wasn’t turned on by the machines height ,too low to the ground and very, very hard on my back .
On the other hand when I go to the woods with my axes mauls and wedges its a slow pace but a great atmosphere . I start a fire of the brush , hang a kettle on it for coffee and splits to hang mitts gloves and coats . I cut three junks ,split them ,then pile them in the truck and repeat that for a while and when I get tired I head to the fire .I light my pipe , warm myself have a cup and enjoy the quiet nothing like .If I have company with me and I am tiring I fake a “sharpening “ to catch my breath .” So sorry I had to stop Scott the maul was sticken need a filing “ . The dead give away when I am whipped is I start to fall down a lot , tripping over any thing even snow , the jig is up . Nothing beats a day in the woods with out a motor running to compete with just the solid clop , clop of the axe its good ~copey ps and the reading is interesting ,you read each piece your about to split and do so accordingly
