I agree. A maul is the way to go. I just split 24" rounds of fir. Just set them up and start whacking pieces off the sides then split through middle. Takes 5 min to complete one. If the wood is really dry I can split it in half then with single blows whack off pieces like cutting a pie. The best part for me is the exercise I do not get enough and this is good for me. I still have 30' log that is 2 to 3 foot in diameter to buck and split.
