Maybe the idea was that the ambulances would mostly stay on roads. I know they never came from the factory with winches either. They have a longer wheelbase than an M37 too, which argues against off-road use. I can't remember if it has stiffener plates on the frame or not. One of my beater M37s does. I think it might have been a contact maintenance truck at one point. I'm debating whether I should take the body off and just start from the frame up. Haven't done much on the ambulance lately, but before I do a nice job on the body, including taking out all the sheet metal inner lining, painting the insides of the panels and putting insulation in, maybe it's worth taking it down to the frame and getting all the underneath stuff right too.
