Drove the '61 TWPW up to Cottonwood Pass to see the Aspens changing. It's been a month since the center bolt in the passenger rear spring pack broke. Limped home 120 miles from Colorado Springs at 45-50 mpg with a rag holding the springs together. The u-bolts were still in place, but every bump or twist in the road gave an opportunity to loose one of the smaller springs. Replaced both sets of bolts on each side ( u-bolt and center bolt.
While it was down I changed to a larger turbo and bigger intercooler pipes. The pipes I was using were 2 1/2" OD but with the ribs inside the actual area was 1.9". I had installed new injectors from a first generation 12 valve. Every time I drove it, it smoked like it had a chip. My mileage was 18-20, I was hoping for the 25-30 range Paul is getting. The present combination is working well together. I was able to climb a 7-10% grade in 4th gear, EGT's were reasonable, and no smoke. Went all the way up to the Continental Divide without a glitch. The Aspens were spectacular. Great way to spend an afternoon
