The front drive shaft MUST turn at all times. It is locked to the wheels/hubs. There is no provision to disconnect it on a STOCK dodge set-up. If you put selectable hubs on a stock Dodge NP203 full-time case & unlock the hubs, the truck will not move unless shifted into Hi-Loc or Lo-Loc. Power (torque) takes the path of least resistance. In Hi or Lo (No Loc) it is possible to lose vehicle movement if ONE wheel loses traction (no limited slip in that axle). LOC locks the front & rear driveshafts together, as you said same as any other t-case. Then at least one wheel per axle is getting power.

In the normal Hi or Lo position, which ever axle has the least traction will get all the power & spin, same as side to side on an open dif axle....But on solid ground all shafts are turning. Thats why all the conversion stuff came out, partly because of the deemed excessive wear on front components, erratic turning motion, etc. Folks wanted to stop that front shaft from turning thinking they would improve gas mileage. MPG gains were marginal.at best.
