You know when you take your first born home and everything is new to you and a little scary. You lissten for every cough and sneeze. Well a year or two later the second child comes along and its all familiar so much so that you know exactly what to do by instinct and the fear is long gone and you can actually enjoy being a parent. For me thats how my first Dodge truck was I was so careful on that M37 that at first sand blasting was painful, I used nothing but NOS parts and tried to use all the parts that were on the truck when I got it if possible.
On my second truck I got a little more laid back and wanted to enjoy my truck. It was a M37B1 and in need of some major help.
After dealing with 24 volt electrics I had grown tired of them. Also I was tired of the dual batteries. So I commited sacralige and went 12 volt and put one gel cell under the seat.I no longer build my trucks for saftey and comfort thats a cop out I simpley build my trucks for me to enjoy.
Sure saftey is a big part of that but its because of the natural corse of things not because I need an excuse to update or make it easier to maintain.
I like alternators and 12 volts. I like dual circuit master cylinders.
Disc brakes and power steering is for the hotrod crowd but if you like that on your truck then I like it too.
After its all said and done these trucks were artwork the day they rolled off the line, They were exact copies then and now 50+ years later they have added some character and have become individuals nothing wrong with individual character it makes it more fun when we get together and compare notes. There is no test at the end of the day and if there was we would all get an A+ just for participation.
