Ok here goes, This is the original water pump off of my 06 ram 1500. It blew at 39000 miles. I was 2 miles from a dodge dealer at the time, rolled into the lot, truck died. The service dept repaired it and i picked it up that evening. flash forward two months, truck overheats again, except i was nowhere near a dealer, made it to a napa car care center. Guess what....blown water pump !!! mechanic finds "too many chuncks" of the cheap, plastic impeller. Turns out the dealer mechanic on the first repair never made sure he had all the broken pieces out. In the pic you can see the hole in the impeller and two broken pieces, the piece on the right belongs to this pump and the piece on the left is from the previous pump. First of all, it never should have blown at 39000 miles ! Thats lousy !! second, why does it have a cheap, plastic pressed on impeller ? cant be a weight savings issue ! Its just the cheapest way to produce the part ! So, im out over $1000.00 on these two water pump repairs and "was" in a fight with the dealer over the lousy job they did ! I went straight to chrysler with a letter, pictures and the napa cc center backing me up. i want my $ back for either repair, they were both about the same cost. And i missed a days work because of the 2nd repair as i was an hour away from work and was stranded. Highly doubt i'll get reimbused for that tho !! Anyway, Bad service and cheap plastic parts. Why cant they just put a metal impeller on the pump. It wouldnt blow apart like that, it would just start to leak at 100000 or something. Im lucky i still have an engine ! Have not heard a word from chrysler, next week is 1 month since i sent them the letter and pics.
sorry for the long rant !

Greg
