Bill,

You need spark, fuel and compression to run. One is missing, but it can't be the fuel or the other cylinders wouldn't run.

Take the spark plug out, hook it up to the plug wire, and make sure the plug body is grounded (use a jumper cable if needed). Start up the engine and watch the plug for spark.

Secondly, put your finger over the spark plug hole to feel for compression and vacuum while the engine turns over. do this while turning over with the starter, not while running.

One of the two is the problem.
