If your fuel system is in proper working order, the only fuel loss will be from evaporation and that is even restricted by the air cleaner.
However - once the accelerator pump drys out, starting becomes (very) difficult. If you are losing fuel from the carb and fuel pump within a short time, you need to fix a couple of things - if the truck only gets used rarely a prime of some sort is a good idea.
Otherwise, fit an electric pump.
