A pump doesn't know where the liquid comes from or where it's going. A dash-mounted pump could pull raw fuel from upstream of the motors' pump and into a properly installed port in the intake manifold. Mechanical block-mounted fuel pumps with manual primer levers are still out there. There are companies that service and rebuild them. The penchant we have for off-roading and splashing around in muddy water may preclude their use, however. And I, too have had to raise the hood, remove the air filter and pour fuel into the carb. However, I'm 5'7" and my FF is tall and, you know the rest. I'm leaning toward a dash-mount.
