Most of the glass bowl fuel filters are interchangable as long as the threads match the seat/fitting on the carb and the inlet line. The correct one for your truck was made by Carter, but I have seen many others used successfully. Some of the Carters did not have a glass bowl, but a metal bowl instead. Both used a ceramic internal filter element. Both were available with different thread sizes and combinations to fit different applications and vehicles.

The bowl on your fuel pump is not really a filter. It is a sediment bowl and meant to strain out and collect only large chunks of junk from the fuel system. As you have found, the glass bowls do not interchange between the AC fuel pumps and the Carter fuel filters.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes. Personally, I do not like filters that you throw away. I like filters that you can inspect, service, and clean. I am a big fan of Carter ceramic fuel filters, oil bath air filters, and replaceable element oil filters.
