I finally bit the bullet and sold my Chevy to downsize a bit in overall dimensions and upsize in towing power. Sold (in about 10 hours) my 6.5 Turbo Chevy 3500 Crew cab and picked up an '01 2500 Dodge 24V quad cab short bed automatic 4x4.
The truck has never been chipped, the only mod is a straight factory sized exhaust and I dropped in a K&N air filter which gained me a little over 1.5 mpg on my return trip this weekend from home...140 miles one way, same route both ways with the cruise set at 70. I got 16.7 going there and 18.4 coming back. Sure is nice to go round trip and still have about a half tank left.
Truck has 200K on the ticker, a new transmission about 20k ago and new IP and LP about 40K ago.
I cannot complain a bit about the truck, but I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for getting some more life out of the VP44 IP. A buddy of mine has a filter setup to use a 2 micron spin on and I have started shopping for an upgrade for the lift pump. I'd appreciate any input. The only upgrades on my mind right now (other than the fuel system) are a cold air intake and perhaps a Banks air horn(?)/intake manifold.
