Seems like it was a short summer. Last week it barely cracked 90 and the news people said it was the hottest summer every on record. I just don't see it. It was cold and rainy until July, never got near 100, and here it is feeling like fall already. Yesterday was beautiful, warm and breezy, but I woke up to rain this morning. Blew a hydraulic hose on the cat so had to come back to town.

100 years ago today, 10 million acres of North Idaho went up in flames in what they called the "Hurricane Fire" or the "1910 Fire". 5 miles from here, Ed Pulaski's crew mostly survived by holing up in the Nicholson adit of the War Eagle mine, but everyone was a mess when they got out. In 1910 it didn't rain a drop from March till August. Good thing they didn't have global warming back then or it would have even been worse.

Time to start thinking about buttoning things up for the winter, getting rigs moved to whichever side of the mountain they'll stay on all winter, putting props under the hoods and cabs so the snow doesn't smash them, taking batteries out and bringing them to town, making sure the radiators have strong anti-freeze in them, getting all my firewood in, etc.
