The other thing is the crank flange. If it has the extended 8 bolt crank flange from a heavy truck, the 1962 and up automatic won't go on and you would need the matching bellhousing to mount a standard trans as the bellhousings actually came around between block and flywheel and spaced the trans back a little to work with the extended crank flange. You would need the standard 6 bolt short flange crank to bolt on the automatic. Another interesting note is that the Pre-62 Torqueflites were cast iron case and the engines had an extended flange crankshaft in them. I never got a chance to compare a pre-62 long flange crank to a heavy truck long flange crank to see if they are the same though, and nobody has given me a straight yes or no either. I guess I gotta finally sit down and do the comparison....
