Strange that they'd have two trucks that use the same engine and same tranny but different bell housings. I know there's an aluminum adapter ring on the 2.5 ton, that goes between the tranny and the bell housing. Is that the "$500" adapter? I have never pulled a tranny on a 5 ton. I suppose it's possible that they use a different bell housing and no adapter ring, but I'd have to see it to believe it.
I'm still not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish here. Do you have a truck that you're trying to put a particular engine and tranny in, or do you have an engine that you're trying to adapt to this tranny? Anything can be adapted to anything with sufficient fabrication.
