M54 trucks generally have basically the same multifuel engine as M35 trucks, so they would have the same bell housing. There were several versions of the multifuel. The early ("smoker") engine was the LD427. The version you usually find is the LDT465 ("clean air") engine, which has a turbo. That came in at least 3 variants, the LDT465-1C, the LDT465-1D, and the LDS465. Generally, the 5-tons have the LDS465, which as near as I can tell is the same as the LDT but is tuned up for more fuel consumption and more power. The -1D was the "final" improved version of the multifuel. If there ever was a -1A or -1B, I've not seen it. I believe the -1D and LDS usually had a slightly larger clutch, but again, the bellhousing is the same size. I know of at least one M35 that came out of the DRMO with an LDS465 in it. Part of the interchangeabality of the M-series extends to interchangeable power packs between the 5-ton series (M54 variants) and 2.5-ton series (M35 variants). Back of the tranny, everything (T-case and axles) is different.

One thing to think about when considering a spicer tranny for another truck is that the 3052 splits the gears better than the 3053. The 3053 was a bit of a kluge in order to get an overdrive 5th gear which the slower-turning diesel engine needed when they replaced all the gassers with multifuels. The 3052, in which 5th gear is direct, spaces the gears very nicely, but in the 3053, with 4th gear direct, there's too big of a gap between 3rd and 4th, and not enough gap between 4th and 5th. If you're putting it behind a high-revving gas engine ("high" is relative; the multi-fuel red-lines at 2600 and likes to cruise at 2200) you may not need the overdrive, and a 3052 would be slightly more pleasant to drive.
